Introduction

Northern Region works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the development of India, partnering industry, Government, and civil society, through advisory and consultative processes. CII Northern Region is headquartered at Chandigarh. Comprising of eight States of Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand & Uttar Pradesh and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, NR accounts for around 30.7%, 32% and 27% of the total area, population and contribution to the national GDP respectively.

The Northern States are rich in resources that provide competitive advantages across sectors representing both manufacturing and services. The economy of the region is consistently growing over the year. Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi are the largest economies accounting for more than three-fourth of the NR GSDP. The UT of Chandigarh leads the growth chart closely followed by Uttarakhand, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. In addition, six states of the region – Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand have higher per capita income compared to the national average.

Building Competitive North – Sustainable, Inclusive and Equitable” By working closely with the concerned stakeholders - Industry, Government, and Society on this theme, we proposes to draw and implement a sustainable growth model for the region which will ultimately contribute towards enhancing India’s competitiveness. Thus, we identified 6 Key Enablers- Enabling Policy Framework & Ease of Doing Business, Enhancing Competitiveness, Efficient Physical & Social Infrastructure, Entrepreneurship Development & Startups, Engaging Society and Expanding Reach to explore new markets.
